Vuelvo para contaros todo sobre Nueva York, los lugares que visitar, por dónde salir, dónde comprar... espero que así quien próximamente viaje a esta que es mi ciudad pueda disfrutar de todos sus encantos.
Amanece en la ciudad de las grandes oportunidades. El sol se alza detrás de los grandes edificios para teñir el cielo de un amarillo anaranjado que pone en funcionamiento el bullicio de la gran ciudad.
Nueva York es la ciudad ideal para perderse entre sus calles, para encontrarse una persona diferente en cada esquina, cada una con una historia que contar, para vestirse a la última moda, para ver bailar break dance en la calle, para observar el retrato de Manhattan en un día cualquiera, ya sea invierno o verano y sentirse parte de la gran manzana.
Cualquier época del año es buena para visitar Nueva York: en Otoño la Semana de la Moda inunda la ciudad de un aire más chic y glamuroso del que ya tiene de por sí; en invierno los arboles de Central Park se tiñen de blanco, se abre la pista de hielo en Rockefeller Centre y se respira ambiente navideño por todos lados; en primavera poco a poco va saliendo el sol y es la mejor época para conocer cómo es la ciudad realmente; y en Verano la gran manzana se llena de turistas, el ambiente es extremadamente húmedo y caluroso pero las noches neoyorkinas son las mejores.
Nueva York está compuesto de 5 áreas. Queens, donde es recomendable visitar su precioso jardín botánico; Staten Island, que tiene poca atracción turística pero las vistas de Manhattan desde esta isla son espectaculares y además el ferry desde Manhattan es gratis.
No podemos olvidar visitar la Estatua de la Libertad en Elis Island, el símbolo americano por excelencia. Salen ferrys desde Manhattan a todas horas.
El Bronx es un lugar poco recomendable para visitar por la noche debido a su alto índice de criminalidad, sin embargo merece la pena visitar el zoo o ir a ver un partido de beisbol en el Estadio de los Yankees.
Brooklyn últimamente es conocido como “el último Manhattan” pues es destacable por sus tiendas de segunda mano y sus estupendos restaurantes escondidos en Williamsburg, un barrio a la última lleno de gente joven y de ambiente moderno, y si uno no se quiere perder la mejor pizza de Nueva York ha de visitar Grimaldi’s, justo debajo del puente de Brooklyn. Sin embargo, no hay que olvidar Coney Island, al sur de Brooklyn en donde recientemente se ha remodelado la feria que ya existía en los años 60, ideal para pasar un día de playa y atracciones como hace 40 años.
Y por último, Manhattan. Esta isla en la que viven más de 8 millones de personas, está dividida en avenidas y calles en forma de cuadrícula por lo que perderse es imposible y encontrar los lugares de interés, tarea de niños.
En el norte se encuentra Harlem, los “suburbios” de Manhattan pero donde se celebran las míticas misas de Godspell que hay que ver al menos una vez en la vida. Sin embargo es difícil entrar a una de ellas si no se es de raza negra. Un poco más abajo se encuentra la universidad de Columbia, lugar digno de apreciar por su arquitectura pero también por su ambiente universitario en otra época que no sea verano.
A continuación se alza magestuoso el Upper East Side, a la derecha del norte de Central Park, el barrio más caro de toda la ciudad y donde viven grandes celebridades. Aquí se encuentra el Metropolitan Museum que recoge una gran colección de pinturas de todas las épocas así como numerosos lugares que nos sonarán familiares por haberlos visto en películas o series de televisión como los hoteles Waldorf Astoria o el Palace, Park Avenue, las tiendas de Madison Avenue, la pastelería Serendipity III o Pastis. Para aquellos estudiantes que visiten la ciudad en verano y quieran pasar una buena noche de miércoles, es recomendable visitar el pub Mad River.
Midtown, acoge la mayor parte de Central park, precioso en todas las épocas del año, donde se puede patinar sobre hielo en invierno, pasear admirando el paisaje en primavera y otoño y hacer un picnic bajo la sombra de los árboles o escuchar los conciertos de la filarmónica de Nueva york gratis en verano. En esta parte de la ciudad es donde se encuentran la mayoría de los monumentos reconocidos como el Empire State, El Filatron Building, el MOMA, el Chrysler building, El gran famoso hotel Plaza, la catedral de St. Patrick, Times Square donde es obligatorio asistir por la noche para admirar todas sus luces y colores, Rockefeller Centre, el barrio gay de Chelsea, Bryant park, donde comer al aire libre si hace buen tiempo es muy agradable, o la milla de oro de la quinta avenida con las mejores tiendas, entre ellas Tiffany’s en la que una se siente como Audrey Hepburn en Desayuno con Diamantes admirando el escaparate.
Más hacia el sur se encuentran los lugares más modernos y bohemios de la ciudad, como es el SoHo, el barrio que tiene de todo, pues se puede ir de compras por Spring Street, comer o cenar en uno de sus pequeños Bitros y salir por la noche por los locales más trendy como Greenhouse. Justo al lado de SoHo se encuentra China Town, donde todo está escrito en chino, los restaurantes orientales son los mejores de la ciudad y las copias de relojes y bolsos de marca son magníficas. Little Italy se esconde tras el gigante asiático, plagado de restaurantes Italianos donde los dueños casi obligan a entrar en sus locales como si de la mafia se tratara. Greenwich Village es el barrio universitario por excelencia debido a que allí se encuentra la universidad de Nueva York (NYU)y el barrio está abarrotado de pubs, karaokes y conciertos de jazz (los mejores son en Blue Note) con un ambiente muy animado. Para los más fiesteros es recomendable visitar el Metpacking District donde se encuentran las mejores y más famosas discotecas como Pink Elphant, Marqee o Mansion.
Ya en el sur se encuentra el distrito financiero con calles tan famosas como Wall Street y lugares para visitar como la bolsa de Nueva York, Battery Park o la Zona Cero donde antes se encontraban las torres gemelas.
Sin lugar a dudas, el mejor recuerdo de Nueva York será atravesar el puente de Brooklyn desde Manhattan por la noche e ir dejando atrás las luces que componen los grandes edificios en una imagen de Manhattan que nunca jamás se olvidará.

I come back to tell you everything about New York, the places to visit, where to hang out, where to go shopping... I hope that ones who travel to NY, which I consider my city, soon can enjoy all its charms.
Dawns in the city of the opportunities. The sun rises up behind the big buildings dyeing the sky into a yellow orange that turns on the bustle of the big city.
New York is the ideal city to lose yourself between its streets, to meet different people in every corner, all with a story to tell, to dress with the last trend, to see how people dance break dance on the street, to observe a Manhattan’s portrait in a normal day, even if it’s winter or summer, and feel as part of the big apple.
Every season is good to visit NY: in fall, the NY fashion week floods the city into a more chic and glamorous air; in winter, central park’s trees stains into white, Rockefeller Centre’s ice rink opens and you can feel a Christmas atmosphere everywhere; in spring the sun appears little by little and it’s the best season to know the city as it really is; and in summer the big apple gets full of tourists, the atmosphere is extremely humid and warm but the new York’s nights are the best ones.
NY is formed by 5 areas. Queens, where you must visit the beautiful botanic garden; Staten Island, with little tourist attraction but where the Manhattan skyline is awesome and also many ferries from Manhattan are free.
We can’t forget to visit the Statue of Liberty in Elis Island, the best American symbol. Some ferries go out from Manhattan at every hour.
The Bronx is a place you don’t have to visit at night because of the high crime level; however is worth to visit the zoo and go to watch a baseball match at the Yankee Stadium.
Brooklyn is now known as “the last Manhattan” because it’s remarkable for its second hand stores and its great hidden restaurant in Williamsburg, a very trendy neighborhood full of young people and modern atmosphere, and if you want to taste the best pizza of New York you must visit Grimaldi’s, just under the Brooklyn Bridge. However we can’t forget Coney Island, in the south of Brooklyn, where recently the 60’s fair has been rebuilt, perfect to spend a day on the beach and riding the rides.
Lastly, Manhattan. This island where 8 million people live, it’s divided in avenues and streets creating a grid so getting lost is impossible and finding the places is so easy.
On the north you can find Harlem, the Manhattan’s “suburbs” but where the God spell mass are celebrated, something you have to see once in life. Otherwise, it’s a little bit difficult the entrance if you are not black people. A little bit below there’s the Columbia University, place beautiful for its architecture but also because of its university atmosphere in another season beside summer.
Next, rises up the majestic Upper East Side, on the right part of northern Central Park, the most expensive neighborhood of the city and where great celebrities are living in. Here is the Metropolitan Museum, with a huge collection of paintings of all times, and also many places that sound familiar because maybe you’ve seen them in films or TV series as the Waldorf Astoria or Palace hotels, Park Avenue, Madison’s stores, the pastry Serendipity III or Pastis. To those students who visit the city in summer and wanted to spend a good Wednesday night, you must go to Mad River pub.
Midtown hosts the most part of Central Park, beautiful in every season of the year, where you can make ice skating in winter, have a walk admiring the landscapes during fall and spring and make a picnic under a tree’s shadow or listen to New York Philharmonics’ free concerts in summer. In this part of the city is where you can find the well known monuments as the Empire State, the Flatiron Building, the MOMA, the Chrysler Building, the great famous Plaza hotel, the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Times Square where it’s mandatory to go during the night to watch all the lights and colors, Rockefeller Centre, the gay neighborhood of Chelsea, Bryant Park where eating outdoors if it’s good weather is very pleasant, or the fifth avenue with the best stores as Tiffany’s where you can feel as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s looking the showcase.
More on the south, there are the most modern and bohemian places, as SoHo, the neighborhood that has everything: you can go shopping down Spring Street, have lunch or dinner in one of its little Bistros and hang out at nights to the trendiest clubs as Greenhouse. Just next to SoHo it’s China Town where everything is in Chinese, the oriental restaurants are the best in the city and the watches and bags imitations are perfect. Little Italy hides behind the Asiatic giant, full of Italian restaurants where the owners almost push you to enter into their locals as if they were part of the Mafia. Greenwich Village is the university neighborhood because of proximity of New York University (NYU) and the neighborhood is full of pubs, karaoke’s and jazz concerts (the best ones are in Blue Note) with a very festive atmosphere. For the ones “crazy for party” you must go to the Met packing District where are the best and most famous clubs as Pink Elephant, Marqee or Mansion.
The most southern place is the Financial Districts with streets as famous as Wall Street and places to visit as the New York’s stock Exange, Battery Park or Ground Zero where the Twin Towers were before.
Without any doubt, the best memory of New York will be crossing the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan at night leaving behind us the lights that build the big buildings on an image of Manhattan that we will never forget.
